Argentina: ECDC situation report on outbreak of influenza A(H1N1) 11 May 2009

Main developments in past 24 hours

- 12 new confirmed cases reported from EU and EFTA countries;

- Norway reported its first 2 confirmed cases;

- One case in Italy, previously classified as in-country transmission, has been reclassified as travel-related;

- Seven additional confirmed cases reported from the UK with in-country transmission;

- Outside of EU and EFTA countries, 4936 confirmed cases;

- One more death from the US in a previously confirmed case

This report is based on official information provided by the national public health websites, or through other official communication channels. In addition, outside of the EU and EFTA countries, media reports from credible sources are included when quoting national authorities. An update on the number of probable and confirmed cases as of 11 May, 08:00 hours CEST, is presented in Table 1 and Table 2.

European Union and EFTA countries

Within the last 24 hours, 12 new confirmed cases were reported in the EU and EFTA countries. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in EU/EFTA countries is 196, and 11 probable cases. To date fourteen EU and EFTA countries reported confirmed cases.

The first two reported cases from Norway were both travel related. One more confirmed case was reported from France and Sweden each.

In the UK 10 more probable cases are reported in the last 24 hours.

The cumulative number of confirmed cases with in-country transmission in the EU and EFTA countries is 42 from 4 EU/EFTA countries. In Italy, the 2 year old confirmed case, member of a family cluster, who was previously classified as possible in-country transmission has been reclassified as travel related infection, and was removed from the table.

Seven cases of in-country transmission were reported from the UK in the past 24 hours. Two of them are adults and contacts of previously confirmed cases. The remaining five are one adult and four children from the London area who were related to the school cluster and already swabbed last week.
